Why Industry Expertise Matters in Accounting

The bookkeeping rules that decide whether your numbers are right are different in every trade. A generalist learns them on your books, at your expense. We already know them.

Revenue is recognized the way your industry earns it

Retainage on a construction draw, an insurance claim paid at a contracted rate, a marketplace payout net of fees, a protection plan earned over three years: each one has its own rule, and booking it as “money in” overstates a good month and hides a bad one.

New York sales tax is different in every trade

Capital-improvement work on an ST-124, the $110 clothing exemption, taxable storage in a warehouse, delivery on an appliance sale, resale certificates from a wholesale customer. We set the register, the invoice and the return up for your rules, then file them.

The numbers you manage by are built into the close

WIP and over/under billings, days in A/R and denial rate, margin by unit, by site, by client. You get them with the monthly financials, benchmarked against your industry, not reconstructed at year end.

Structure and filings match the rules of your profession

Physician-, dentist- and attorney-owned PCs and PLLCs, management services organizations at arm’s length, qualified New York manufacturer status, NYC UBT. The entity is set up the way New York requires and the returns follow.

Industry Accounting FAQ

Do you only work with the industries listed here?

No. These are the industries we work with most and have built dedicated pages for. We also keep the books for professional service firms, restaurants and hospitality, agencies, nonprofits and trades across New York. If you don’t see yours, book a consultation and we’ll walk through how your business earns and spends and what the accounting needs to capture.

What does industry-specific bookkeeping actually include?

Everything standard bookkeeping includes — reconciled accounts, categorized transactions, monthly financials, tax-ready books — plus the things that are specific to your trade: how revenue is recognized, how inventory or work in progress is valued, which sales tax rules apply, which entity rules your profession must follow, and the two or three numbers your industry is actually managed by, reported every month.

Can you take over from our current bookkeeper without disrupting the business?

Yes. We start with a review of the existing books, rebuild or correct what needs it from bank, processor and system exports, and give you a clean opening balance. Most transitions take two to five weeks depending on volume and how far behind the books are, and you keep operating normally throughout.

How is pricing set for industry accounting?

A flat monthly fee based on transaction volume, the number of entities or locations, sales tax obligations and the systems involved — not on hours. The fee is confirmed before work begins and doesn’t change because you had a busy month. Starting points for each plan are on our bookkeeping pricing page.

Do you work with businesses across all of New York?

Yes. Our office is in New City in Rockland County, and we work with clients across Westchester, the five boroughs, Long Island and upstate. Books, filings and meetings are handled remotely for most clients, with in-person meetings available at the office.

“We run several locations and payroll is by far our biggest expense, so when the numbers are fuzzy it costs you fast. I couldn’t see which sites were carrying the group and which were dragging it down. Danzinger & Co broke our reporting out by location, got our provider and staff labor costs allocated correctly, and tightened the billing-to-collections cycle so revenue stopped lagging the work by months. Now I run the group on real per-site numbers instead of gut feel. And they explain it like humans, which I don’t take for granted.”
